About Us

Culture Workers Education Center (CWEC) was founded in 2019 in response to the ongoing struggle of workers in the cultural service industry. As a worker center, we are a platform for workers to gather, learn, and organize to address urgent issues such as living wages, labor rights, industry policy, and equity in the cultural workplace. We serve culture workers in New York City and State directly, while providing online resources for people everywhere.

Our Mission & Vision

CWEC supports culture workers through educational programs and resource sharing to advance the recognition of cultural labor and opportunities for collective action. We envision a more just and equitable cultural workplace and landscape.

Our Values

  • All labor is valuable to society - there is dignity in all work

  • By working together, culture workers can leverage their longstanding but all too often under-recognized economic, social, and civic power

  • An intersectional analysis of the production, funding, public presentation, and interpretation of culture must include class, race, gender, age, ability, education, and language

  • Workers in every industry can achieve economic and social justice when they work collectively in their interests - solidarity!

  • We embrace interdisciplinarity, exchange, and cross-industry learning
